KilgorenWoman's Club learn more about Palin

The Kilgore Woman's Club met on Sept.25, in the parlor of First Christian Church. Peggy Bowne and Carroll Bolton were hostesses. President Carroll Bolton presided, calling the meeting to order and leading the members in the Club Collect.

Secretary Marion Dovel read the minutes of the last meeting and treasurer Marada Early reported on club finances. Club officers and committee chairmen reported on their activities. Members were reminded the next meeting will be on Oct. 9 at the home of Rosalee Floyd.

Ruth Anne Camp was introduced to give the program. In keeping with this year's theme, "And That's The Way It Is," Camp chose Sarah Palin as her topic.

On Aug. 29, Senator John Mc- Cain announced his choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate. Since Palin is young and relatively unknown, this surprised everyone. Camp said she had gathered information about Sarah Palin from TV, newspapers, and the Internet.

Sarah was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Feb. 11, 1964, and moved to Alaska as an infant. She went to school in Alaska and received a BS degree in communications from the University of Idaho in 1987. She married her high school sweetheart, Todd, and they recently celebrated their 29 anniversary. He is a native of Alaska and a commercial fisherman. The Palins have five children, and Sarah refers to herself as a "hockey mom."

Her political life includes four years on the city council and six years as the mayor of Wasilla. After an unsuccessful run for lieutenant governor, she won the governor's race two years ago.

Her top priorities as governor have been energy development, ethics reform, education and workforce development, public health and safety, and transportation and infrastructure development.

This 11 governor of Alaska is the first female and youngest governor of that state. At the time of her selection as the vice presidential running mate, she had an 80 percent approval rating in Alaska.

Camp told her audience they could learn more about Sarah Palin and her beliefs when she debates Joe Biden in St. Louis on Oct. 2.

Those attending were Patsy Abernathy, Carroll Bolton, Peggy Bowne, Dimples Burns, Ruth Anne Camp, Janie Dickerson, Marion Dovel, Marada Early, Frankie Florey, Carolyn Kennedy, Vernie Kunkel, Martha Lee, Marian Richardson, Linda Sartor, Virginia Wallace, and guests Roberta Boggs and Joan Smith.
