Kilgore Seniors gear up for Garage and Bake Sale The Kilgore Senior Citizens met Sept. 24, in the Lions building at 307 Rusk Street. President Betty Roebuck called the meeting to order at 11:30. Ray Drost led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Harvey Rollins led the prayer. Joyce Riddles read a story titled, "Somebody's Raising Their Kid Right." It was based on II Corinthians 5:7, "For we walk by faith not by sight." The group played bingo with Joyce calling, assisted by President Betty. The winners were Vivian Patton, Dorothy Huberman, Audrey Fulcher, Dave Connor, Helen Fette, and Kathy Goodwin. The seniors had one visitor, Betty Harding, who also had a birthday, so they sang "Happy Birthday" to her. She joined 35 seniors for adelicious covered-dish luncheon. The secretary's report was read and approved. The treasurer's report was also read and approved. The Sunshine Lady gave her report. She sure has been busy. Sympathy cards were sent to Joyce Riddles, who has lost her sister-in-law, and Martha Keenan who has lost her sister; hello cards to Mildred Kersh and Francis Lenning; and Birthday cards to Diane Williams, Faye Rollins, Lillie Byrd, and Bill Butler. The group voted to send a check for $120 again this year to the Rotary Club to display our flags around the Lions Building again this year on designated patriotic days. This money goes toward the Rotary's Scholarship Fund. President Betty reminded members of the Garage and Bake Sale to be held, Oct. 3, and Saturday from 8am to noon. She asked us all to help those two days and to help set up. She also read a note from Kalli Rhodes telling us she was leaving Friday, September 26, for Nashville and she was to have a recording session on Sept. 27. We all wished her well. Ray Drost announced he would conduct Preventive Driving classes on Monday, Sept. 29 and Sept. 30 at 8:30 a.m., at the Lions building. He also told us about a college professor who was giving a lecture on company slogans. Door prizes were won by Dottie Green and Diane Williams. President Betty closed our meeting with prayer at 1p.m. The next meeting is Wednesday, October 8.
