LC falls to Fannindel; reduced schedule tonight

JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL
By REV. EDWIN FINDLEY and MITCH LUCAS sports@kilgorenewsherald.com

The Leverett's Chapel junior high six-man football team lost to the Oakwood Panthers, 67- 33, on Thursday night in their final home game of the season.

"Our boys played hard," LC coach West McWhorter said. "I am proud of the way they played, with a lot of courage."

Clay White scored all five touchdowns for the Lions, as he rushed for over 140 yards on the night. Blake Roe added conversion kick and Jessie Harris caught a pass for an extra point.

Damiyne Durham threw two touchdowns for the Panthers: one to Jacquez Forte and another to Juan Vargas. Donte Abram rushed for four touchdowns and Forte scored another.

The junior high Lions will be on the road for their next three games. Next week they play at Westphilia. They're at Rowlett Academy on Oct. 23 and finish on Oct. 30 at Oakwood.

There is a reduced local schedule tonight for teams in the Kilgore News Herald's coverage area. Kilgore (4-1) and West Rusk (5-0) both have open dates. LC (3-1) visits Fannindel for a varsity six-man game; Sabine (2-2) visits Winona and Overton (3-2) hosts Cayuga. See stories on those games in Sunday's News Herald.

One other thing: last Friday, Jessie Harris was identified in the paper as Jessie White; obviously, that was incorrect. The News Herald regrets the error.
