Fannindel final tune-up Friday for LC
IN MID FLIGHT — Trey Deason of Apple Springs jumps in for one of his four scores on the night. But it wasn't enough, as the Eagles lost to the Lions, 84-36. The Leverett's Chapel Lions are one game away from being perfect so far this season.
The six-man Lions' only setback came to Avalon two weeks ago. Without that blemish, coach Matt Everett's program would be headed into this week's game at Fannindel with a 4-0 record.
The Lions visit Fannindel tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. That's the final game before a little bit of history. LC, which resumed football a few seasons ago after not having a program for over 15 years, will play their first Division II, District 15 game at home Oct. 10 against Iredell. This is the last chance for Everett and his coaching staff to get the team ready for district play.
The Lions certainly looked prepared last week.
LC ran over, around and through Apple Springs on the way to an 84-36 win. Those 84 points are high even for six-man football standards, and is the highest point total for LC since the Lions began playing six-man four seasons ago.
The Lions had 555 yards of total offense, held Apple Springs to 279 total yards, and looked as dominant as those statistics sound.
Hunter Hammontree was in on eight touchdowns for the Lions: four rushing scores and then throwing for four more. Hammontree was personally accountable for 345 yards of offense against the Eagles. And Trevor Dean was impressive, as well, scoring four touchdowns — two rushing and two receiving.
Kyle Youngblood scored twice, as well.
LC has only made one road trip so far this season (Apple Springs last week in Lufkin). They'll have two at home and two on the road in the contests that remain. Next week, LC visits Walnut Springs, hosts Morgan Oct. 24, then concludes the regular season on the road at Oglesby Oct. 31.
