Tryouts set Saturday for semi-pro Texas Xtreme

SEMI-PRO FOOTBALL
From special reports

The Texas Xtreme semi professional football team is seeking new players at all positions for the upcoming 2009 season.

Players must be at least 18 years of age. Tryouts will be conducted at Brownsboro High School practice field this Saturday.

Registration will begin Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Tryout fees are $20 per person.

The Xtreme have qualified for the playoffs six of the past seven seasons.

For additional information contact former Gilmer High School player and current Texas Xtreme player/coach Mike Spencer at (903) 790-7365.

"Semi pro does not pay their players," said XTreme co-owner and defensive coordinator Gary Craig. "Many players from our team and teams within the league have received college scholarships and some have advanced to the arena league. Many players are playing simply for the love of the game of football."

Craig said the XTreme are entering their eighth season.
