Kilgore tennis squad shuts down Whitehouse
Bulldogs can clinch no worse than second in district and regional berth with another win
Photo by Lester Murray GET IT! — Kilgore's Kade Bittick (above) was among the winners Tuesday for the Bulldogs against Whitehouse. Tuesday was a good day for the Kilgore High School tennis team.
The Bulldogs soundly defeated Whitehouse, 19-0, and in spite of a loss to Lindale last week, Kilgore is in good position to make the regional tournament at the end of this fall season.
The Bulldogs host non-district opponents Van and Wills Point on Saturday — KHS faces Wills Point at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, and Van at 1 p.m.
The big two matchups for KHS are Henderson on Tuesday (here at 4 p.m.) and at Nacogdoches on Oct. 14.
"If we can win our next two district matches," coach Jason Maroney said, "...we will be guaranteed second place, which will earn us a trip to regionals."
The regional tournament will be played Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 in Grapevine.
A pair of Kilgore tennis players have been hurting recently, Maroney said, noting that both Jody Madding and Shelby Duncan missed the matches against Whitehouse. Maroney said Duncan will likely play against Van and Wills Point, and that Madding's injury will need to be watched, that he will likely miss at least a week.
