      Tuesday was a good day for the Kilgore High School tennis team. The Bulldogs soundly defeated Whitehouse, 19-0, and in spite of a loss to Lindale last week, Kilgore is in good position to make the regional tournament at the end of this fall season.

Washington will return; some coaches won't

      ARLINGTON (AP) — Bench coach Art Howe and third-base coach Matt Walbeck are done with the Texas Rangers. General manager Jon Daniels said Monday that Howe and Walbeck won't be offered contracts for next season. Jim Colborn, who filled in as bullpen coach the past two months, will return to being the team's director of Pacific Rim operations.

LA Tech, Boise on TV tonight

      Former Kilgore High standout Lon Roberts, now the starting center for the Louisiana Tech University football team, will be in action tonight on ESPN as the Bulldogs visit Boise State. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. Roberts wears No. 66. Tech will try to reverse a trend — Boise has beaten Tech in six straight games.

Tryouts set Saturday for semi-pro Texas Xtreme

      The Texas Xtreme semi professional football team is seeking new players at all positions for the upcoming 2009 season. Players must be at least 18 years of age. Tryouts will be conducted at Brownsboro High School practice field this Saturday.
