EAGLE SCOUT HELPS CRISIS CENTER
     Joseph Worden recently spearheaded a drive to improve the surroundings at the Kilgore Community Crisis Center as part of his Eagle Scout service project. Joseph, 2008 KHS graduate and son of Dennis and Paula Worden, directed 12 scouts from Troop 495, along with their families, to paint a bedroom and bath, the back porch, a wooden swing set and the food closet at the center. County Red Cross with storm costs
      Gregg County Commissioners authorized a $20,000 donation to the American Red Cross during their meeting Monday morning. The money is slated for use within the county to offset costs incurred with evacuee assistance following hurricanes Gustav and Ike.

KISD Hispanic population grows, so do bilingual/ESL programs

      Tuesday at noon the Kilgore Independent School District's Board of Trustees heard a progress report on the district's Bilingual/English as a Second Language program. Irva Swetnam, ESL coordinator for KISD, gave the numbers based on the 2007/2008 school year.
