Christmas in the Patch essay contest

Kilgore Historical Preservation Foundation's annual Christmas in the Patch Essay Contest begins Wednesday, Oct. 1, and is open to students in English classes at Kilgore High School, Maude Laird Middle School and Kilgore Intermediate School. The contest ends on Nov. 1.

"Tis the Season" is the topic of the contest this year and it includes a season for holly, for shopping, for decorating, for families, for carols, for church and for anything else Christmas means to the students entering the contest.

Three winners will be chosen — one from each school — and they will have the honor of turning on the lights at the Christmas during the Patch program. Each will receive a gold Christmas ornament and a special T-shirt.

Teachers assisting with the contest are Amy Bates from KHS, Debby Leppert from MLMS and Deborah Nicholson from KIS. They will also judge the essays.
