Kilgore freshmen win; JV, varsity lose to JT

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL

The Kilgore High School varsity volleyball team won't head into district play on a high note.

The Lady Bulldogs have an open date tonight, and their next matchup begins District 14-4A play — that's at Jacksonville on Friday night. Kilgore lost its final nondistrict tune-up on Friday here at home to John Tyler, a 25-15, 25-14, 25-13 JT win. Kilgore would have had one more non-district game, but Lufkin was forced to cancel that due to the weather damage from Hurricane Ike, and housing Ike evacuees.

For Kilgore, Kathryn McIntyre had 10 good serves and 11 kills. Sarah Morris had five kills, and Haylee Wright had two. Kaliegh Benoit, a sophomore, played with the varsity on Friday, coach Lacy Thompson said, and said that Benoit did a great job on the back row.

Kilgore's junior varsity also lost, a 25-19, 25-9 decision, but the KHS freshmen won, 25-19, 25-23.

As mentioned, the Lady Bulldogs (5-13) visits Jacksonville Friday, with varsity played at 4:30. The Lady 'Dogs host Henderson on Tuesday, a 5 p.m. freshmen start.
