KILGOROUND
CONGRATULATIONS to all the football teams in the Kilgore News Herald's coverage area that won over the weekend — that would be Kilgore, Sabine, Overton and West Rusk.
Kilgore College opened conference play on the road with a loss at Navarro (see our story on page 8 today), but the Rangers have a bigger challenge on Saturday — No. 1- ranked Blinn visits KC, a 7 p.m. kickoff. Come on and turn out for the Rangers. They need the support and a fired-up crowd might make a difference. In past years, R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium has been a house of horrors for Blinn; a loud crowd might help do that again.
High school games this week have Kilgore visiting Palestine, Sabine hosting Union Grove (and that's homecoming), Overton at Cushing, West Rusk at Queen City, and Leverett's Chapel playing six-man
football at Apple Springs. All of those games begin Friday at 7:30 p.m.

ARRIVING AT THE KILGORE GILMER game on Friday night, I was reminded about a project the Kilgore High School football booster club is doing to raise money, something you might like to have a chance to win.
Raffle tickets are still on sale to give someone a chance to own a new fourwheeler, a 2008 Kawasaki Brute Force VTwin 650 4X4, donated by Fortune Resources, LLC, for $5 a ticket. The drawing will be held and the four-wheeler given away on Friday, Oct. 24, the night the Bulldogs host Whitehouse. Second prize that night will be a 70-quart stand-up wooden cooler, donated by the Gary family.

HOW ABOUT GETTING A look at what vehicles were, once upon a time?
This is the 100th anniversary of the Ford Model T, and because of that, on Oct. 1, Texans will turn out for the 31st annual Texas T Party in Temple, Killeen and the surrounding area.
That's a hike from here, but it sounds like an interesting thing, particularly for historians. About 90 Model Ts will be on hand for viewing, exterior and interior.
According to the press release we received on the event, the Model T was the first low-priced, mass-produced automobile with a 20- horsepower, four-cylinder engine, got 13-21 miles per gallon and had a top speed of about 45 miles per hour. Over 15 million of the cars were sold by 1927, when production on the car was halted.
