Christ the King Catholic Church recently honored Reverend Father Michael Adams with two farewell parties. Father Michael, Parochial Vicar at Christ the King for the past two years, has been appointed as administrator of St. William of Vercelli Catholic Church in Carthage. Father Michael was the guest of honor at the monthly Christ the King Family Night held August 23, 2008. The theme for this party to bid Father Michael a fond farewell was a western one with parishioners donning Western hats, boots, and other Western attire. Everyone enjoyed an evening of quality visiting with Father Adams. An abundance of picture taking was enjoyed as each family gathered to have their picture taken with him.

The pictures will be presented to him later in an album. Revard Pfeffer, Chairman of the Finance Committee, thanked Father Michael on behalf of all of the parishioners, for his outstanding service and spiritual guidance and leadership to Christ the King parishioners for the past two inspiring years. Father Michael quickly gained the reputation of delivering outstanding homilies. As Mr. Pfeffer said, "words that we may not have wanted to hear" but words that were designed to get us all to the ultimate place that we all desire to be-- -Heaven. Mimi and Thomas Barker furnished delicious brisket and others brought various casseroles, vegetables, salads and desserts to complete the delectable meal. Thomas Barker, a talented guitarist and singer, provided splendid music throughout the evening for easy listening and wonderful entertainment. John Hanisee presented Father Michael with a Kilgore "City of Stars" T-Shirt signed by all those present.

The following week, a reception in honor of Father Michael was held Sunday morning, August 31, 2008, immediately following the 9 a.m. mass. A wonderful selection of delicious homemade cookies, punch, and coffee were served. Again, parishioners enjoyed one on one visiting with Father Michael, and again, pictures were made with him of those who were unable to attend the CTK Family Night. At the conclusion of the two events, a money tree was presented to Father Michael as well as many gifts and cards. He humbly expressed his gratitude and thanks to all the parishioners as he told everyone that he truly loved each and everyone. Christ the King will long be remembered as his first parish assignment after his ordination to the priesthood. It was with great reluctance and sadness that parishioners said their goodbyes to Father Michael and wished him well as he left the following Tuesday to assume his duties at St. William of Vercelli Catholic Church in Carthage, Texas September 2, 2008.
