Sabine beats Gladewater; Kilgore loses

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL

Sabine beat Gladewater in four games, 22-25, 25-9, 25- 20, 25-9 on Tuesday, picking up win No. 13 on the season. The Lady Cardinals are 13-9, 1-1 in District 18-2A play, and host White Oak Friday night.

Against Gladewater, Sabine got nine kills, an assist and a block from Shayla Gossett; Carra Smitherman had 11 kills and three blocks; Alex Easley had six kills, 14 assists, and three aces; Cortnee Ryan had 10 kills, three blocks, an assist and four digs; Brittany Stuart had four kills and a block; and Kendra Whitehead had two aces, two digs, three kills and an assist.

Cassie Headley had seven assists. Lindsey Bryce had six digs and two aces. Krystal Kent had three digs and three aces and Tashae' Pegues had three digs.

Sabine's junior varsity won, 22-25,25-19,25-21, and the freshmen won, 21-25,30- 28,25-18.

• KHS loses at Van: In Kilgore High School volleyball's first action in a week, the Lady Bulldogs lost at Van in three games, 16-25, 20-25, 11-25.

Coach Lacy Thompson said Sarah Morris had five kills, and Kathryn McIntyre had four. Alyssa Phillips had several passes that resulted in kills, Thompson said, and Lesta Eaton had nine sets that resulted in kills.

The other two KHS squads won. The freshmen beat Van 25-23, 21-25, 26-24, and the JV won, 17-25, 26-24, 25-23.

Kilgore hosts John Tyler on Friday — varsity will begin at 4 p.m., freshmen at 4:30, and JV at 5.

Thompson is assisted by Cassie Newell and Amanda Farmer.

Friday's game against John Tyler is the final non-district game. The Lady Bulldogs will be off Tuesday, then open District 14-4A play at Jacksonville on Friday.
