Opening meeting for Kilgore Garden Club

The Kilgore Garden Club began a new season 2008-09 at the home of Helen Goodwin on Thursday, September 4. Brunch was provided by The Executive Committee. Members present were: Patsy Abernahy, Cynthia Adams, Birdie Barron, Carroll Bolton, Martha Lee, Alice Lowery, Dolores Meyers, Jean Robertson Joy Tate, Lana White and Kay Yates.

President, Cynthia Adams, called on Joy Tate to read "The Gardener's Prayer". Peggy Bowne, Treasurer, gave the financial report. Copies were given to each of the members for review. Ms. Bowne drew attention to the District III meeting on March 13, 2009, at Forest Home. The Kilgore Garden Club is responsible for the door prizes. She made a motion that the club accept. Kay Yates made the second.

Committee reports included a request from Paula Lawrence that the club be consultants for container gardening for the Middle School. Peggy Bowne made the motion, seconded by Kay Yates that we accept this project. Jean Robertson reminded members of the upcoming Community Concert.

Also mentioned was the "Trail of Lights" on Tuesday, September 30, and the "Buddies and Beyond," September 16, which will benefit the renewing of the Christmas lights broken by the storms. Martha Lee, corresponding secretary, reported that a gift to the Texas Garden Club in honor of Cynthia Adams had been acknowledged.

Carol Hilton, Vice President, distributed the yearbooks for the coming year.

Last year's scrapbook was presented to Cynthia Adams by Jean Robertson. The next meeting of the club will be held at the home of Carroll Bolton on Thursday, October, at 10 a.m. The program will be "Enjoying Nature's Beauty".
