Joy Makers collect school supplies

The Joy Makers had their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, September 9 at 6 p.m. Everyone helped decorate the tables by bringing school supplies. The two boxes of supplies are being donated to the Kilgore Intermediate School thus helping students and teachers.

Doris Snow gave the welcoming address and JC Bearden gave the invocation. Members read over the prayer list and added Bill Hedrick to the prayer requests. Casseroles, salads, meats, vegetables and of course desserts were plentiful. Art Snow's fried chicken was a favorite as well as a pot of turnip greens.

Adding another candle to their birthday cakes were Billie Sue Bonds, Charles Wimberley, and Jewel Matlock. Billy and Dovie Jones will be celebrating 51 years of togetherness this month. Betty Ware proved herself as being able to tell a funny joke and a serious devotional about the prodigal son.

Dwight Dorminy brought his fellow singers known as the County Line Quartet to entertain the group. Everybody enjoyed the southern gospel music of Regina Ward, Babs Webb, Carolyn Wimberley, Dwight Dorminy and James Holder on the keyboard. The songs were favorites and there were even some solos. But to add icing to the cake, James Holder played a solo. Why is one person so blessed with all of that talent?

Members attending were Banona Watson, Neola Leach, J C. and Betty Bearden, Art and Doris Snow, Kenny Leonard, Johnny and Sue Clements, Travis and Betty Crews, Dwight Dorminy, Babs Webb, Charles and Carolyn Wimberley, James Holder, Don and Betty Bonds, Carnell and Anne Waller, Jewel Matlock, Betty Ware, Billie Sue Bonds, and Gertie Lacy.

Also attending were Harold and Wanda Pierce, Dorothy Mitchell, Ertis Murphy, Don and Becky Copeland, Betty Lee, Lee Ann Warren, Lee and Sylvia Reid, Lou Hands, Louise McKinney, Dovie Jones, Lavelle Jenkins, Jim and Pam McWilliams, Mark Fried, and Laverne Mercer.

The Joy Makers welcomed W.C. and Mary Jane Bearden as new members, and were happy to have Taylor, Trent, and Regina Ward as special guests.

The singing of "Blest Be the Tie" was the benediction. All are looking forward to the next meeting on October 14.
