Fishing anyone?
CHITCHAT CORNER
Whether you know it or not, there is a quaint little soda shop in Liberty City off I-20 that also serves lunches. Tina, the owner is fairly new to the area and last week she had every customer wiping tears from laughter as she entertained them with her first adventures of moving to East Texas. "My father," she said. "Thought it was fantastic I was moving here." " You'll be surrounded by lakes so you find us a good one to go fishing," he told me. "Well, we are all fishermen and women in my family and that just put the icing on the cake. So, one of the first things I do is scan the telephone book for any kind of lake resorts and I found a listing for Lakeview. (For those who don't know, Lakeview is a funeral home and memorial gardens surrounded by beautiful ponds.) "Well, I called that number," continued Tina. "And I asked the lady if she had any spots available. The lady hesitated a minute, and said, " Oh, yes, ma'am, we have spots available." "So, I told her, that's good because you can expect a bunch of us… There was a pause at the end of the line and finally the woman said, "Well, that's nice." "Still thinking I had a lake resort, I asked her if she had any ducks because we liked to feed the ducks. Well, evidently when I asked her that, the lady had to regain her composure as it took awhile for her to answer, "Yes, we have ducks….and we don't mind if you feed them. (By this time, everyone in the soda shop was laughing out loud.) "But, then I asked her if we could pitch a tent and with that the woman quickly said, "I've got to put you on hold. I couldn't imagine what was being so difficult about the questions I was asking and now that I know the difference, I figure that woman was putting me on hold to tell the rest of them, " Get over here, I've got a live one! And they are probably still laughing at me," she said. (I don't know about that Tina, but, I do know your customers won't forget that lunch for a while.) The Kilgore Historical Preservation Foundation is having a fundraiser by featuring Buddy & Beyond, the Johnny Rogers Show on Tuesday, September 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Dodson Auditorium on the Kilgore Campus. Bring all of your friends and family. How can we do without the Ingersolls in this town? We hear there is a move taking place first for Pastor Roberta and then a few months down the road for Pastor Bill. A reception is being held for Pastor Roberta Dodds Ingersoll in honor of the many hours spent in His service throughout the community on Sunday, September 21, from 2-4 p.m. in the parlor of First Presbyterian Church. (Somebody bring the nails and we will nail down their shoes.) \May His Love and Laughter Fill Your Hearts and Your Homes Throughout the Week. In the meantime, I may be reached at 903-984-2593 or by e-mail at chitchatlinda@aol.com.
