Jordan and the Lions were quite impressive Friday night in six-man football, beating Joshua Christian 66-0, wrapping up the game at halftime (thanks to the six-man mercy rule). LC (2-0 this season) faces defending TAPPS Division I champion Greenville Christian this Friday, a 7:30 p.m. start. LAIRD HILL — It only took the Leverett's Chapel Lions one half to defeated the Joshua Christian Knights, 66-0.

In six men football there, is a mercy rule that if by half either team is leading by 45 the game is finished. "It was good to get a shutout," LC coach Matt Everett said, noting it had been two years since the last one for the Lions, who moved to 2-0 with the win. Joshua Christian fell to 0-2.

Leverett's Chapel will host Greenville Christian on Friday.

In the two wins, the Lions have scored 135 points and have racked up over 680 total yards. The Lions have held their opponents to a total of 38 points and less than 390 yards.

In six quarters of football in 2008, the Lions have averaged over 100 yards of offense per quarter, and five of the six players who started scored at least one touchdown as the Lions cruised to victory.

"We play hard, and Joshua Christian played hard," Everett said. "We are thankful we got out of this game without any injuries."

Trevor Dean scored three touchdowns, rushed for 59 yards and had 30 yards receiving. Dean scored all three in the first quarter. He began LC's scoring with just 28 seconds off the clock with a 32-yard run, finishing a two-play, 46-yard drive. His second score can with 7:10 left in the quarter — he finished off a two-play drive by running around the end from the 12. Dean's third score on the night came when he caught a perfectly-thrown pass from Daniel Still. It was a pass over his left shoulder from the 30.

Hunter Hammontree scored twice and kicked six out of LC's nine extra points. Hammontree scored his first TD of the season from the 5 with only 4:59 left in the first quarter. He scored again in second quarter when he ran it in from JC's 1, and also did all the kickoffs for LC, which each went into the end zone except once. This helped keep the Knights in their end of the field. Hammontree finished with 73 total yards (47 rushing and 26 passing).

The first-string defense during the first quarter didn't allow the Knights to cross their own 30. And at the end of the first quarter, the Knights had -1 yards of total offense.

Chas Maxwell scored twice: once on a 55-yard first quarter punt return and then again later from JC's 5. Maxwell had 20 rushing yards for the night. Kyle Youngblood also scored in the first quarter as the center received a pass from Still from the 32. Still went 5-for-5 for 110 yards in the game, with two touchdown passes.

Also scoring for LC was Tony Chavez, who scored in the second quarter on a 15-yard run after an interception by Maxwell, who ran the interception back 22 yards to set up Maxwell's score.

"The coaching staff does a great job over at Greenville Christian," Everett stated. "Year after year they are loaded. Last year they were the TAPPS Division I state champions. Last year, they put us away in the third quarter. ...We have to have a good week of practice and stay focused."
