Artist speaks to Rotarians

By GREG COLLINS for the News Herald

Kilgore Rotarian Gordon Reed and Anup Bhandari were guest speakers for the Kilgore Rotary Club on Wednesday. Reed talked about membership, while Bhandari and his wife talked about moving to America and some paintings they have done in rememberence of 9-11.

Reed discussed important aspects of membership and said that recruitment and retention are very important when discussing membership. Kilgore Rotarians must attract new members by telling them about our club, club members must tell the community about our club by relating what we do and the publicity committee of the club must let the community know about our club by doing a good job letting them know what we do.

Club members received cards detailing aspects of Rotary International and the Kilgore Rotary Club that they can pass out to prospective new members.

Bhandari and his wife spoke about coming to America to study. He came to Kilgore College in 2000 and is currently a student at UT Tyler. He has used his talent to raise funds for social work.

His wife, Ashta, is studying children's programs and will team up with her husband to create a children's book.

Their apartment on Houston Street doubles as an art gallery and has been covered by the Kilgore News Herald and KLTVChannel 7. They open their apartment for those who want to come visit. It is located at 703 Houston Street and is Apartment No. 9. It is open after 4 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.

Kilgore Rotary Club welcomed Linda Sartor and Megan McKenry as new members of the club on Wednesday. Sartor is a former KHS and West Rusk instructor and now works as a teaching substitute and has also taught at Kilgore College. McKenry is a dentist who has purchased and opened Dr. Bob Baker's practice on Stone Road.

Dan Ballenger was honored for 45 years of perfect attendance, and Keith Hooks was recognized for 20 years of perfect attendance.
