Both the freshmen and junior varsity football teams at Kilgore High School scored wins over Hallsville on Thursday night here at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium.
The JV, coached by Jay Dean, won the nightcap, taking a 12-7 victory. Coach Dean said the defense played well, led by Willie Lawler and Chris Williams. Shannon Polk had two rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs (1-1), who will host Marshall next Thursday night.
Coach Joey Pippen's Kilgore freshmen shut out the Bobcats last night, 19-0. Quarterback Riley Toler hooked up with Shaun Williams for a 12-yard touchdown, with Hugo Orta getting the extra point. LaDarius Anthony had 10 carries for 102 yards and a first-half touchdown, and the only score of the second half was an interception returned 25 yards for a touchdown by Jose Barron.
Photos by Lester Murray Toler also ran for 24 yards on three carries, and Deontre Williams rushed for 12 yards on four carries. Shaun Williams had 15 yards on four carries.
The freshmen will also be home against Marshall next Thursday.
KHS at Hallsville tonight
Kilgore's varsity football program plays at Hallsville tonight, a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Kilgore beat Carthage last week, 33-20, in the season opener, and Hallsville opened a few eyes with a 42-7 win over Tatum.

Kilgore High School's games are broadcast on the radio on 1240-AM by the Ragin' Red Broadcasting team of Don Hedrick, Ronnie Chappell and Doug Smith.

KC hosts TJC Saturday
The Kilgore College Rangers will host their closest rival, the Tyler Junior College Apaches, on Saturday night at 7 p.m., with a chance to get their first win of the season.
The Rangers stumbled out of the gate just a bit with a 40-20 loss at home to Fort Scott (Kan.) last weekend. A few Rangers, including running back Cornelius Shackleford, did not play in the opener.
The Rangerettes and the Apache Belles will provide halftime entertainment.

VOLLEYBALL
Hallsville here tonight
The Hallsville High School volleyball team will visit Kilgore tonight, with freshmen and varsity starting at 4:30 p.m. (to help those who'd like to see the varsity volleyball game, then drive to Hallsville for varsity football). Junior varsity will follow.
Kilgore plays at Pine Tree on Tuesday, and at Lufkin on Friday.
TENNIS
KHS in T-High tourney
Kilgore High School's tennis team, coached by Jason Maroney, is playing in a tournament at Texarkana this weekend. KHS was to face Texas High this morning, Waco Midway at 1:30 p.m., and on Saturday, they'll face Frisco at 8 a.m. and an opponent to be determined at 1:30.
KHS visits All-Saints in Tyler on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., and the KHS JV hosts All- Saints Thursday at 4.
SOFTBALL
Booster meeting Monday
There will be a meeting of the Kilgore High School softball boosters at 6 p.m. Monday at the locker room of the team's field on Harris Street.
