The Lions beat Academy, 69-38, last weekend, and will host Joshua Christian on Friday. Don't tell Leverett's Chapel head football coach Matt Everett that his team blew by Dallas Academy in the 2008 opener last week.

Everett, who watched as his Lions dismantled DA, 69-38, found a few bad things in the overwhelming victory.

"I thought we did a lot of things right," graded Everett, "but we did a few things wrong, too, things that would get us beat if we keep doing them. Offensively, we had some good series, but in the third quarter, we had three straight possessions where we either turned the ball over, or turned it over on downs."

The Lions, 18 players strong as they start out on another six-man football season, will host Joshua Christian this Friday at 7:30 p.m.

JC lost 28-20 last week to a firstyear program, and Everett believes they'll be motivated for this game.

"I think we're probably going to have to play better this week to beat Joshua Christian than we played last week," he said. "I do think we've got some potential, and I think we have a good opportunity to make the playoffs out of our district."

LC had 431 yards against Dallas Academy last week, and allowed 311 in the win. The Lions led 48- 19 at halftime, and never looked back.

Trevor Dean Dean had a big night, rushing for 144 yards, passing for 100, and scored four touchdowns, ran in an extra point and kicked another.

Kyle Youngblood scored three times on the night, had 40 yards rushing and 73 passing. Daniel Still threw four touchdown passes and went 9-of-18; Tony Chavez had 122 rushing yards, scored a touchdown and ran in an extra point; Taylor Jordan had 70 yards, scored on a 3-yard run and added an extra point; Chase Maxwell scored a fourth-quarter touchdown and had an extra point.

LC has a schedule that could allow them to go 4-0 before even hitting the road. The Lions host Greenville Christian Sept. 12, host Avalon for homecoming Sept. 19, and don't even go on the road until Sept. 26 at Apple Springs.

The Lions' very first six-man district game will be played at home against Iredell on Oct. 10.
