2008-09-05 / Front Page

About a dozen members of the Patriot Guard Riders turned out yesterday to provide a funeral escort for Floyd Pardue of Gladewater. Pardue was a veteran of the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. The Patriot Guard Riders organized several years ago to escort the News Herald photo by LESTER MURRAY funeral processions of veterans. The organization formed in response to a Kansas-based group of religious zealots who protest at the funerals of veterans. Yesterday's PGR turnout was the largest to-date at a funeral here.
