KPD faults victim in Monday's accident

A Kilgore Police investigation has determined that Cynthia Drake was at fault in a fatal accident Monday afternoon.

Officers responded to the accident on U.S. 259 bypass north of Synergy Drive, at approximately 5:37 p.m. and found Cynthia Bush Drake, 56, deceased.

The investigation showed that Drake, who was traveling southbound, crossed lanes into oncoming traffic and collided with a tractor-trailer operated by Terry Marze, of Gladewater.

Talyna Carlson, Gregg County Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace, pronounced Drake dead on scene at 6:15 p.m.

Marze was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Good Shepherd Medical Center, in Longview, where he was treated for minor injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

It is yet to be determined why Drake crossed over into the path of oncoming traffic. Blood samples were taken from each driver and are pending laboratory analysis by the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Laboratory.
