Mother nature strikes

CHITCHAT CORNER
LINDA K. BALLARD

Pastor Ed Findley of Laird Hill Baptist Church received quite a wake up call Monday evening. It had started to rain as he and his wife Joyce pulled up at the church for an associate meeting. He let her out at the door and Ricky Hammontree handed him an umbrella so he could park the car and get back in the building. Lightning struck the umbrella as Pastor Findley was crossing the parking lot. Seeing what happened, Joyce and the Hammontrees shouted out for him to run. When he made it inside, he thought he was okay other than his thumb that was on the metal part of the umbrella was burned, but as the meeting progressed he began to feel worse. When he got home, he realized his stomach was also burned due to his metal belt buckle and now he feels his immune system may have been affected by the jolt because he suffering with a cold. He thinks it is possible the cold was coming on anyway, but he is still not feeling like himself. Please keep him in your prayers.

Ms. Gertie Lacy kept them enthralled at a family reunion held at the Community Inn last week. "We had 95 show up and they were all kin to me," she said. "I had to set them straight on some things and they had better find it out now," she said. "Because I'm 95 (years old) and I may not be here much longer…" Her family traveled from as far away as California, "some from the Rio Grande Valley, some from Austin and San Antonio and a whole slew of them from the Dallas area" to hear her talk. "Some things was confused," she said. "They thought my parents came to Texas in a covered wagon, when in fact they rode the train. "But oh, we had a good time," she said.

St. Luke's Methodist church will be getting a new preacher. However, the computer ate the letter introducing him, so for now, that's all we know…

Our Queen of Swing, Kelli Grant has whizzed back into town after making 1100 miles in 6 days. Things seem to be going great for her. She has been nominated again for the Will Rogers Award by the Academy of Western Artist and her new "Swings & Sings" CD is climbing the charts and receiving great reviews. She has developed a "recipe" that describes her music and it is positively delightful! But, that's Kelli. Keep on singing, Kelli!

"Hmmm, lots of movement going on downtown," writes Ronnie Spradlin.
