Community Concert Association to open season

Dallas' internationally recognized Vocal Majority chorus will open the 2008-2009 concert season of the Kilgore community Concert Association on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Dodson Auditorium on the Kilgore college campus in Kilgore.

Performance time is 7:30 p.m.

Under the direction of father/son conductors, Jim and Greg Clancy, the 150+ voice male chorus is known for its lush a cappella harmonies.

Repertoire for the show will include classic love songs, inspirational and sacred music, patriotic and pops favorites, plus the chorus' signature barbershop harmony specialty.

The vocal Majority won an unprecedented 11th gold medal in international competition of the Barbershop Harmony Society at its Indianapolis convention in 2006. The chorus holds the largest number of gold medals in the society's history.

Admission to the concert is by Community Concert Association membership only. No individual tickets will be sold, but season memberships will be on sale at Dodson Auditorium approximately 30 minutes in advance of the performance. Memberships are $35 for adults, $10 for students, or $80 for families.

Membership will include admission to four other attractions this season:

Daniel Narducci, a classic baritone singing must of Leonard Bernstein, on October 18; Pavlo, a Mediterranean guitarist with four back-up musicians, on November 8; classical pianist Jade Simmons on January 13, 2009; and Pianafiddle, featuring improvisations by jazz and ragtime pianist Lynn Wright and classical violinist Adam deGraff, on March 24, 2009.

This is the third time the Community Concert Association has presented the Vocal Majority as its season-opening attraction, and the chorus has drawn some of the largest audiences of recent concert seasons.

The Vocal Majority has performed with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, the Atlanta Symphony, and has performed in Glasgow, Scotland and in Toronto, Canada.

The chorus has released 25 recordings, including five Christmas albums.
