KC enrollment numbers up

Kilgore College is seeing a rise in their student enrollment, up over 350 students for the start of the fall semester.

Staci Martin, Kilgore College registrars office said as of the end of the day on Friday, KC's enrollment for the 2008 fall semester was 5,404 students, compared to 5,053 students for the 2007 fall semester and 4554 students for the 2006 fall semester.

Martin said the enrollment total is a 6.9 percent increase over 2007 and an 18.7 percent increase over the fall 2006 semester. "This number is not the official one," said Martin. "The final count won't come until the final day to drop, Sept. 10."

These numbers reflect enrollment in classes taken for academic credit according to Martin, not adult education classes.

Included in the count are high school students enrolled in dual credit courses. A law passed at the last legislative session requires all high schools to make at least 12 hours of dual credit available.
