Seniors enjoy a good lunch together The Kilgore Senior Citizens met Wednesday, August 13, in the Lions building at 307 Rusk Street. President Betty Roebuck called the meeting to order at 11:30. Ray Drost led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and Roy Tucker gave the opening prayer. Cora Holt was present to take blood pressures. They played Bingo with Joyce Riddles calling, assisted by Betty Roebuck. There were several winners: Muriel Gault, Audrey Fulcher, Dave Connor, Ruth Gleaton, Dottie Green, Darlene Wilcox, Betty Warlick, Juanita Jarett, and Roger Crouch. There was one visitor, Linda Buckrell, who is Lillie Byrd's daughter. There were forty-three there to enjoy the delicious covered dish luncheon. The Secretary's report was read and approved as corrected. The Treasurer's report was read and approved. The Sunshine Lady gave her report. She sent a Sympathy card to Alvina Johnson's son in Garland, Texas; Birthday cards to Dovie Emmons, Syblene Dye, Muriel Gault, Pat Norvell; and a Hello card to Cetrue Linahan who is back home. President Betty and Ray Drost have each been out to visit Lois Rogers, who is in the Gregg Home and she is progressing slowly. Ray read an article, "I'm a Senior Citizen and Proud of It." Don Hale was welcomed back after having surgery. Martha Kennon spoke about the Angel Food Ministries that provides a box of food for $30 to those who have registered with them. This service is sponsored by the First Baptist Church in Longview. Ray Drost told us of another such service sponsored by the Kilgore Bible Church in Kilgore. Juanita Riley and Selita Tucker won the door prizes. President Betty closed the meeting with prayer at 1:00 p.m. Next meeting will be Wednesday, August 27.
