Moved from double-A Springfield, Mo. to triple-A Memphis; one step from the majors
      Somewhere between San Antonio and Corpus Christi on Saturday evening, Jess Todd received an important phone call. It wasn't the call to come up to Major League Baseball and join his home organization, the St. Louis Cardinals, but it was an important next step.

KHS VOLLEYBALL OPENS SEASON TONIGHT
     File photo by Lester Murray Kilgore High School's volleyball teams officially open the 2008 season tonight at Longview High School in a trimatch against Longview and North Lamar. Games begin at 5 p.m., and Kilgore's freshmen, junior varsity and varsity are all scheduled to play. The teams are coached by Lacy Thompson, Amanda Farmer and Cassie Newell. The varsity is scheduled to participate in a tournament in Van on Friday and Saturday, and the freshmen and JV are scheduled to play in a Saturday-only tournament in Hallsville. KHS won't play a home game until Sept. 2, when Marshall visits. Right: Kilgore freshman Cheyenne Andrews in action in practice.

McKinney wins TCL championship
League hoping for expansion; Jacks preparing ticket packages
      Cinderella didn't attend the Texas Collegiate League ball this post-season, though there was no shortage of drama. The McKinney Marshals made sure of that, sweeping the TCL Championship Series over the weekend to win their second league title in the last three seasons.
