MARY JEAN FLOREY ELLIS

Mary Jean Florey Ellis, of Waco, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2008. She was born on March 16, 1929 in Kilgore to Jess and Rena Florey. She was a graduate of Kilgore High School and Kilgore College in 1948. While there, she was a member of the Kilgore College Rangerettes.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 13 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors with Mr. Jim Martin officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She married Carl Ellis, of Henderson, on July 18, 1947. Carl and Jean moved back to Waco for the second time in July of 1973 and Jean worked as a school secretary in the Waco Independent School District for 11 years.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Carl; two sons, Neil Ellis and wife Mary of Columbia, SC; Hugh Ellis and wife Jo Beth of Dawson. She had six grandchildren: Mary Beth Ellis Driskell and husband Byron of Sugar Land, Mary Faith Ellis of Columbia, SC, Joanna Ellis of Sugar Land, Matt and Chris Ellis of Charleston, SC and Laura Ellis of College Station. She had three great grandchildren: Olivia Driskell, Griffin McCants, and Ian Driskell. She is also survived by two brothers: Richard Florey and wife Kathy of Flint, Joe Florey of Rockwall and one sister, Hazel Chandler of Houston.

She was preceded in death by one son, David Ellis.
