KILGOROUND
LOCAL COLLEGES HAVE to know their market...
KILGORE College is offering free bus transportation between Kilgore and Longview in an effort to help students deal with the cost of gasoline.
MEANWHILE, Le- Tourneau U is paying $15 per bag for students who matriculate via commercial airline. THAT school's customers are more worried about the escalating cost of air travel than of gasoline.
ABOVE all, to thine own market be true.

AARON Davis, the soldier from Kilgore who recently suffered shrapnel wounds in Afghanistan, is back in Texas.
HE'S at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio (Delta Room 312, for the letter writers among us) and looking forward to surgery. Or, at least, to having the surgery behind him.
AARON still has shrap-
nel in his legs and arms. He also has a piece of shrapnel in his right eye and may lose some vision as a result.

ALL the public schools have posted their guidelines for free and reduced-price lunches.
IF there are 12 persons in your family, you qualify for reduced-price school lunch as long as your household income is below $92,500 per year.
FOR detailed guidelines, contact your school.

THIS note recently arrived at the News Herald in an envelope with a check:
PLEASE cancel (reader's) subscription. She no longer has MIND or money.
+++ WELL, shucks. YOU had your mind set on taking the kids to the park Friday night for the free showing of Ice Age but the rain messed it up.
'S OK. Kilgore Together has re-scheduled the free movie for Friday night, Aug. 22. Meanwhile, free bowling -- for youth, at least -- is scheduled at Pappy's Rock- N-Bowl this Friday night, Aug. 15.
+++
AND, finally, if you're unable to get in your house or crank your car, it may be because the police department has your keys. Several sets of keys have been recovered recently from the post office. Contact the Kilgore PD to see if one of them is yours.
