Kilgore Police Department is still looking for "students" for its third annual Citizen Police Academy.
The academy is designed to familiarize citizens with the operations of the police department.
Roman Roberson, Kilgore Police Department detective, said the academy will include classes on patrol procedures, criminal law, narcotics, search and seizure, tactical operations, investigations, sex offender registration and identity theft.
Students also be offered the opportunity to ride with a patrol officer and witness the street activity the officers encounter on a daily basis.
Enrollment is free and open to the public. Classes will be conducted at the Kilgore Police Department on Tuesday nights and will last approximately two hours. Classes will begin at 6 p.m., Tuesday, September 2, and will conclude on Tuesday, October 14.

tained at the police department by contacting the Kilgore police administration office, Monday through Friday at 903- 983-1559. Deadline for applications is Tuesday, August 26.
If you want to attend, you must live or work in Kilgore, be at least 21 years of age, have no felony convictions, no felony arrest over the last two years, no Class A or B misdemeanor arrest in the last two years and have an honorable discharge if served in military.
Students will get a name tags to wear for the duration of the academy. Each student will be issued a permanent ID card upon completion of the academy.

Deep East Texas A&M Mother's Club is hosting a "Howdy" sendoff party for ALL local Aggies and their families from Longview, Spring Hill, Sabine, Kilgore, White Oak, Hallsville, and Gladewater.
Join then on Friday, August 15, from 7pm-9pm at the Mill Run clubhouse and pool located off Dundee Road in Longview. Come for refreshments, Aggie door prizes and book scholarships!

Claude Fortson has been named purchasing/contract manager for The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler.
As purchasing/contract manager, Fortson will oversee all purchasing operations of UT Health Science Center, including contracts for minority-owned distributors and all manufacturers who supply materials to UT Health Science Center.
He will also oversee the budget of research and development programs at UT Health Science Center.
Fortson, who is a resident of Kilgore and has ties to Liberty City, has more than eight years of supply chain management experience. He is a graduate and member of the Institute of Supply Chain Management in Tempe, Ariz.
He is active in the Kilgore community, working as the head coach for the state, regional and nationally-ranked nonprofit FC Panther Competitive Soccer Club.
He is the son of Carl and Shirley Fortson of Kilgore and the grandson of Calvin and Katherine Fortson, also of Kilgore.
