Cowboys sign safety Hamlin to new deal
NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE
      IRVING (AP) - Dallas Cowboys safety Ken Hamlin won't have to wait until after the season for a long-term contract. The Cowboys and Hamlin agreed Tuesday on a $39 million, sixyear deal that includes a $9 million signing bonus and guarantees the Pro Bowler about $15 million.

      Football time is fast approaching, and it's almost time to buy season tickets for Kilgore High School football. Season tickets for previous ticket-holders go on sale on Monday, Aug. 4, and can be purchased and picked up through Thursday, Aug. 7 at the athletic department offices on the KHS campus. Season tickets for the general public will go on sale Monday, Aug. 11.

Cubs outlast Astros, 2-1
      HOUSTON (AP) _ Hunter Pence spent most of the All-Star break facing a pitching machine in the batting cage at Minute Maid Park. The extra work produced instant results. Pence drove in the game-winning run with a double off Bob Howry in bottom of the ninth inning and gave the Houston Astros a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Friday night.
