KILGOROUND
YOU CAN TELL them you heard it here first: We were told Friday that Hillary Clinton will be speaking at the Maud Cobb Center in Longview on October 4.
IF that turns out to be untrue -- or merely premature -- tell them you heard it somewhere else.

APROPOS of absolutely nothing...
COLMA, California was incorporated to be a home for cemeteries when land in San Francisco got to be so valuable that the Golden Gate city banned new cemeteries and ordered existing cemeteries removed.
COLMA has a population of about 1,100 living souls and two million or so otherwise.
THE joke in the area is that the town's slogan is "It's Good to be Alive in Colma."

DOWNTOWN Auto Mart is gone.
BEFORE you know it,
there will be a new NAPA auto parts store in its spot at the corner of Kay and Kilgore streets. We're told the new store will be up by the end of October.

HARD as it may be to imagine, Main Street Manager Fallon Burns is ordering Christmas lights for downtown.
WOW. Christmas lights while we're still focused on surviving July's heat and ozone action alerts.

IT'S not really a small world, no matter what they tell you.

OUR friend and former city councilman Billy Bob Brady takes donut "holes" to the residents and the staff at Gregg Home and Kilgore Manor most Sunday mornings. In fact, between delivering donut holes and cooking burgers for the residents, he spends so much time at Kilgore Manor that they've designated him an official volunteer and asked him to approve a "background check."
TURNS out he doesn't have a criminal history, after all.

IMPROVEMENTS at the Shakespeare Garden are impressive and worth a visit.
