WE'RE planning an excursion to Dallas. If I can turn my city-slicker friend into a country bumpkin, I am curious to know if she can make my son Julian and me - even if only for a few days - city folk.

I am not exactly sure what the big plan is, but I am looking forward to visiting the Mustangs of Las Colinas exhibit, Fountain Place and the Sixth Floor Museum. Julian is a spontaneous kind of kid and I have surprises planned for him that I cannot spoil here.

I HAD a chance to visit with Kilgore's Martha Williams this week as she enjoyed a fish fry with a few community ladies. One stand-out and interesting fact about Ms. Williams is that she loves to fish. In fact she provided a whopping 60-something fish for the afternoon fish fry in the Pentecost neighborhood.

"I'd go fishing everyday if I could," She said. "You can find me under bridges, on the side of the road, in private ponds and on the lakes too. I just love to fish."

Monica Carr, Ms. Williams' friend, said "If you see a hole in the ground that looks like you could drop in a line and pull out a fish, she's probably already been there."

IF YOU'RE hungry for homegrown tomatoes and peppers, but don't grow them at your own home, Kilgore's Main Street Farmer's Market is still going strong.

LOCAL farmers set up shop -- or at least drop the tailgate on their pickup -- at 8 a.m. Saturdays and stay until 1 p.m. or until the produce is gone, whichever comes first.

THERE are generally also vendors selling locally-produced crafts, local honey and such.
