'Jacks beat Brazos for fourth win in a row
TEXAS COLLEGIATE LEAGUE BASEBALL
Don't look now, but the East Texas Pump Jacks' goal of winning the Texas Collegiate League championship in the franchise's first season might not be just a dream. The Pump Jacks won their fourth straight game on Tuesday night, getting win No. 15 on the season at Brazos Valley, beating the Bombers 12-9 in 10 innings in Bryan. Adam De La Garza, who went 2-for-4 in a win Sunday at Coppell, had another big night. De La Garza had a 2- RBI double in the 10th, his fifth hit of the night (he went 5-for-6). He also scored four runs for the 'Jacks, who are now 15-16 on the year. The four consecutive wins have lifted East Texas into second place in the TCL behind McKinney. Matt Curry also helped ET score three 10th-inning runs with an RBI single of his own - Curry finished the night with three hits. The Bombers committed four errors in the 10th of which the 'Jacks took advantage. Other hitters for ET included Nate Bryan, who had three hits, and Paige Hodges, who had a three-run home run early in the game. Clint Helms started for the 'Jacks and went four innings. He allowed seven runs on three hits before the 'Jacks settled down and put the defensive clamp on Brazos. Gladewater native Hunter Harris, a University of Texas standout, pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and got the win, his first with the franchise. East Texas' winning streak began Friday night with a win over McKinney, the only home win in the streak. The 'Jacks swept Coppell on Saturday and Sunday, then beat Brazos on Tuesday. They'll try to make it five in a row tonight, playing once again at Brazos, a 7:05 p.m. first-pitch. The Pump Jacks are at McKInney on Thursday and Friday nights, then finally come back home Saturday to host Coppell.
