Getting drafted in the Major League Baseball amateur draft has become an annual rite of passage for men in the Shepherd household. For instance, it happened for Ron Shepherd back in 1979, when he was selected after his career at Kilgore High School by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 29th overall pick (in the second round).
