Kilgore routs Gladewater

Kilgore won 19 of 20 matches against Gladewater. Coach Jason Maroney's Bulldogs were to host Center today, then open District 12-4A play next Tuesday at Henderson. The Kilgore High School tennis team's second matchup of the young fall season had the Bulldogs facing off against Gladewater on Saturday, a Kilgore rout. KHS won 19 of 20 matches.
The Bulldogs were to play on their home courts again this afternoon against Center.
In boys results from Saturday's matches against Gladewater:
• KHS No. 1 boys single Trevar Compton beat Gladewater's Aaron Abernathy, 6-3, 6-2 and Kilgore's Josh Way lost to Aaron Cates, 7-6, 6-4, and then Kilgore ran the table. Jody Madding beat Jason Holt, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4; Josh Bailey beat Josh Williams, 6-1, 6-1; Kade Bittick beat Cody Arnold, 6-1, 6-0; Joe Worden defeated Cody Mahaffey, 6-1, 6-1; Ethan High beat Noah Blackmon, 8-1; Jeremy Berryhill beat Joel Blackmon, 8-2; and Josh Snyder-Ware beat Matthew Jones, 8-1.
In boys doubles, it was a Kilgore sweep. Compton and Bailey beat the Aarons - Abernathy and Cates - 8-3. Madding and Way beat Gordan and Hetherington, 8-1; Worden and High beat Jason Holt and Williams, 8-0; and Bittick and Berryhill beat Mahaffey and Arnold, 8-4.
• The KHS girls had a complete sweep, winning all singles and doubles matches that were played.
Haley Smith and Callie Cunyus beat Gabby Pittman and Aleigh Pittman, 8-1 and Emily Mitis and Emily Spence beat Amanda Goodson and Ashley Huggins, 8-0.
In girls singles competition, Cunyus beat Cheyenne Moore, 6-0, 6-0; Mitis beat Gabby Pittman, 6-1, 6-2; Spence beat Aleigh Pittman, 6- 1, 6-1; and Shelby Duncan of KHS beat Ashley Hugghins, 6-1, 6-1.
• In the only mixed doubles matchup of the day, Lauren Terry and Josh Snyder-Ware of KHS beat Cheyenne Moore and Matthew Jones, 8-5.
Following today's matches against Center, the KHS tennis team will be off the remainder of the week and begin District 12-4A play at Henderson next Tuesday. The Bulldogs' first district matchup at home is a Sept. 11 date versus Hallsville.
Kilgore's tennis team is coached by Jason Maroney, in his second season.
