'Dogs get big win at Hallsville
Kilgore won 4-3 on Saturday; now alone in third; hosts Henderson tonight
      A rare Saturday baseball game in District 12-4A was arguably the biggest game of the season to date for the Kilgore High School Bulldogs and Hallsville High School Bobcats. And this week, to borrow terminology from "Smokey and the Bandit," it allows Kilgore to be the pursue-ee, not the pursu-er.

      A loss wasn't the way that first-year head coach Cassie Newell wanted her Kilgore High School softball team to end the season. But she surely couldn't complain too much about the Lady Bulldogs' stretch run near season's end. Kilgore finished its 2007 softball season on Saturday at Hallsville with a 6-0 defeat.

Sabine hosts EF tonight in warm-up

      A few days after winning the District 15-3A softball championship, the Sabine High School Lady Cardinals will be in action again tonight - but with a lot less pressure. Sabine (21-10) will host Elysian Fields tonight at 5 p.m., a playoff warm-up for both of those teams.

      Kilgore's Cassidy Cole, a server at Chili's, drove away with $131,000 in prizes this weekend after hauling in a 11- pound eight-ounce bass at the McDonald's Big Bass Classic on Sam Rayburn Reservoir.

      SAM RAYBURN - Despite prime conditions Sunday morning - a bit of fog followed by cloud cover and wind - Kilgore's Cassidy Cole hung on to first place at the 23rd McDonald's Big Bass Splash. Three days of intense pressure put the big fish off of their feed, insuring Cole's 11.08-pound lunker would take home a garage full of goodies.

      Louisiana native Marcus Thornton left his mark on many here as a student-athlete basketball player for Kilgore College. And on Saturday, his play in the NJCAA Basketball Coaches Association Classic left them standing - as in a standing ovation.

Kilgore's Todd gets complete game win for 'Hogs
COLLEGE BASEBALL
      The highlight reel is growing for Kilgore native Jess Todd, a pitcher at the University of Arkansas. Todd, who recently helped the Razorbacks get a pair of wins over top-ranked Vanderbilt, pitched his first complete game as a Hog over the weekend, recording a 9-3 win over the University of Georgia on Sunday.
