HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL/ SOFTBALL

JV falls; varsity teams in action tonight

At press time, rain and thunderstorms were in the forecast for the remainder of the day, but both the Kilgore High School varsity baseball team and junior varsity and varsity softball teams were still scheduled to play.

Both teams host Hallsville tonight - the varsity baseball Bulldogs (11-7-1 overall, 2-2 in District 12-4A) are slated to play at Driller Park at 6 p.m. The JV softball team hosts Hallsville today at 4:30 p.m., with varsity to follow.

Kilgore fell short in Monday's JV game at Hallsville, leading until the fourth inning, but falling 6-3. Kilgore scored three runs in the top of the first, but those would be the only three runs of the contest for the Bulldogs, who stranded nine runners. Xavian Sanders and Eric Bullard each had singles for Kilgore. Waylon Powe, Justin Roberts and Javarri Kelly had two singles each. Ryan Heimer pitched for Kilgore, netting six strikeouts.

The JV lost to Pine Tree, 14-0, over the weekend. Powe and Kelly had the only hits for KHS. Brandon Terry pitched six innings, netting four K's, and Tye Gossage finished out the sixth.

The KHS JV baseball team hosts Henderson on Friday at 6 p.m.

Thanks to Penny Oswalt for the information on the JV team for this story.
