Todd lifts 'Hogs over No. 1, wins pitcher of week award

JESS TODD JESS TODD This just in: Kilgore native Jess Todd is an awfully-good pitcher.

More just in: the nation's No. 1 team found that out over the weekend.

Todd, a 2004 Kilgore High School g r a d u a t e , helped his new team, the University of Arkansas, to two wins over No. 1-ranked Va n d e r b i l t over the weekend, earning Southeastern Confere n c e Pitcher of the Week honors in the process.

Todd, a junior who was named to the Roger Clemens Award list before the season began, pitched nine innings total, giving up just three runs and notching nine strikeouts. On Friday night, he pitched the final three innings for the 'Hogs, striking out four, walking none and allowing two runs on three hits.

Sunday, Todd came in in the fourth inning and went the distance (six innings). This time, Todd allowed only one run on four hits and struck out five.

Todd is one of many former Kilgore High School athletes now playing athletics in college. If you have information on more, please contact sports editor Mitch Lucas at (903) 984- 2593, or at the e-mail at the top of this page.
