Overton High School boys powerlifters win second straight state championship

      Pretty soon, the recent feats of the Overton High School powerlifting team are going to be the stuff of legend. "Pretty soon" might just be now. Overton's boys powerlifters returned to the UIL Class 1A state championship meet in Aldine Saturday, claiming their secondstraight 1A state powerlifting crown.

KHS track on upswing
Boys, girls continue to improve in meets at G'water, Whitehouse

      The Kilgore High School track & field team was divided on gender lines last weekend, with the boys in Gladewater on Friday and the girls in Whitehouse on Saturday. Both teams did well again, both gradually improving, according to coaches Phillip Lane (boys) and Miller Mata (girls).

JV falls; varsity teams in action tonight

      At press time, rain and thunderstorms were in the forecast for the remainder of the day, but both the Kilgore High School varsity baseball team and junior varsity and varsity softball teams were still scheduled to play. Both teams host Hallsville tonight - the varsity baseball Bulldogs (11-7-1 overall, 2-2 in District 12-4A) are slated to play at Driller Park at 6 p.m.
