Are you fit for the Kingdom? Some of the most arresting words to me in all of scripture are found in John 14:21. They read like this: Those who obey My commands are the ones who love Me. Jesus knew then what He knows now, and that is, talk really is cheap. It doesn't cost people much to say they love the Lord... but it costs a great deal to put that love into action! I came across a reading this past week that is worth passing along. It's about the training of Arabian horses. In Arabia there are certain horses that go through special trainiing for the service of the king. The primary lesson is that of obedience. For example, whenever the trainer blows his whistle a certain way, the horses must learn to run toward him. The training goes on for several months and then the test is given. For several days the horses are deprived of water, until they become frantic with thirst and pace excitedly around the fenced in area. Then suddenly, the gate leading to the pond is opened, and the horses rush toward the water. But just as they are about to drink, the trainer blows his whistle. The horses instinctively stop where they are. They have the maddening desire to stoop and drink, but their wills have been trained to obey the sound of the whistle. Those horses which turn away from the water at this critical moment and run back to the trainer are the only ones considered fit for the service of the king. The article goes on to say that in like manner children of God who have learned to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and to obey the Father's will at all times, are the only ones fit for the service of the King of Kings. I want to challenge you to obedience today. If God is calling you to break a certain habit, then break it. If God is calling you to start a certain task then start it. If God is calling you to step out on faith and walk down a dimly lit path, then walk in the light that He gives, You will never regret taking these steps, because these are the characteristics of a worthy servant. Let me close with the words that are on a plaque in my office “The will of God will never lead you where the grace of God cannot keep you.” And all God’s people said........Amen!
