COVERAGE ON JONES TUESDAY
Kilgore High School senior defensive end Eddie Jones (above, with KHS coach Mike Vallery and his wife, Wanda Vallery) was slated to start for the West AllStars in Saturday’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl, a nationally-televised high school football all-star game played at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The game was to kick off at noon. Kilgore News Herald sports photographer Kathy Bowden is there, getting all sorts of shots of Jones and big moments from the week — some of those shots, and hopefully a few comments from Jones, will be a part of Tuesday’s sports section. This photo was taken by Bowden at a barbecue on Thursday night that was hosted by former high school coaches Herman Boone and Bill Yoast, the real-life inspiration for the 2000 Disney movie “Remember the Titans.” Jones is one of 78 players that were invited to participate in the game, which is in its sixth year and boasts that it has the best players in the country. Past players include University of Texas quarterback Vince Young and 2005 Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush.
