WOODIE STOKER CARROLL Funeral services for Woodie Stoker Carroll, 79, of Compton, CA., will be 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 9, 2006 at Harris Chapel Church of Christ, Longview, with Brother Willie Bradley, III officiating. Burial will follow in Union Post Oak Cemetery in Longview. Local arrangements are under the direction of Victory Funeral Services. She died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006 at Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. She was born in Rusk County on April 1, 1926 to George Washington “Capt.” Stoker and Fronia Sibley Stoker. She became a member of Harris Chapel Church of Christ in Longview, and in 1978, she placed her membership at Northside Church of Christ in Compton, CA., where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She attended and graduated valedictorian from Harris Chapel Public Schools in Henderson, graduated magna cum laude from Butler College in Tyler where she earned her teacher’s credentials, and a degree in English and English Literature. She worked as a distribution clerk for the United States Postal Service for 19 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Artis Carroll; brother, Prenon A. Stoker; three sisters, Clara C. Moss, Lurine S. Moss, and Allie M. Skillern. She is survived by her five children, Wanda, Wendy, Carolyn, Denise and Dennis Carroll, all of California; step-son, James Blackshire of Texas; son-in-law, Freddie McClain of California; two special grandchildren; four step-granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; a step-great-granddaughter; a step-great-grandson; her brother, Vernon Calvin and Betty Jane Stoker, Sr. of Henderson; sister-in-law; brother-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends. Public viewing will be from noon to 6 p.m. and family visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2005 at Victory Funeral Services.
