Queen Price Garden Club meets at NL museum

Queen Price Garden Club and guests met in the beautifully decorated New London Museum for their annual Christmas Dinner at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15. Phyllis Starnes, Chairwoman of the Program Committee, introduced Melissa Beets who led the group in singing favorite Christmas carols and Elizabeth Tipps, President of the Club, who welcomed everyone. Following the invocation by Tom Starnes, a delicious holiday meal was enjoyed. The menu consisted of baked ham, candied sweet potatoes, seasoned green beans, tossed salad, hot rolls, pie, iced tea and coffee. The members brought toys for the holiday baskets to be given by the Good Samaritan. There was also a gift exchange among the members.

A short business meeting was held. Helen Barrett and Elizabeth Tipps, co-chairs of the Christmas Tour of Homes, held on Dec. 10, reported a very successful tour! A large attendance enjoyed visiting the homes. Joan Everett summarized the receipts for the tour, which indicated a nice profit for the Queen Price Garden Club. Helen Vaughan sold the most tour tickets and Elizabeth Tipps sold the most tickets for the drawing. Winners of the drawing were as follows: Melba Baker, gift basket from the Peanut Butter emporium; Phyllis Bigbee, Fitz and Floyd decorative serving piece; and Jim Hamblen, grand prize of the framed jeweled tree. Members shared compliments they had received about the tour. Appreciation was expressed to the following who graciously opened their homes: Dan and Carolyn Browder, Bob and Molly Heath, and Tom and Phyllis Starnes.

To conclude the pleasant evening, Melissa Beets read the poem, “Christmas Spirit.” Season’s greetings were shared among the following who attended the party: Maybell and Scott Andrews, Hazel Barrett, Melissa and Pat Beets, Carolyn and Dan Browder, Jessie Mae Burks, Joan Everett, Margaret and T.D. Higgs, Colleen and Ron Randel, Phyllis and Tom Starnes, Elizabeth Tipps, and Helen and Lawrence Vaughan.
