A pontoon boat rests on dry ground at Lake Cherokee. All of East Texas finished 2005 twenty or more inches below normal annual rainfall and, as a result, lakes and farm ponds are lower than they’ve been in years. State water officials have asked rural water supply corporations to begin looking to their water conservation plans.
