LETTER TO THE EDITOR Dear Editor: All the T’s are crossed and all the I’s are dotted. Now we can only wait for Santa to make his appearance on Christmas Eve. The last basket of food and toys have been delivered, and Kilgore should be gratified knowing it helped so many families and so, so many children. The Bible says not to judge the children because of their situation, just feed them! A few Christmas gifts along the way, also, spread the joy of Christ’s birth. The week leading to the delivering of the food, funds were low and it looked like their would be no toys and extra baskets of food for those in need. A Sunday School classed gather $130 and a Sorority went shopping and boxes of food and clothing suddenly appeared. People I didn’t know just walked up to me or mailed me $100 bills. The morning of 12/15, I arrived to the Lions Club early, knowing that all the money allowed us to buy staples and food products, but there just wouldn’t be any toys. When I arrived Friday morning, some Saint had left boxes and boxes of toys on the front porch of our Club Building. It would be impossible to list all the businesses who contributed to this years Christmas Project, many businesses sent employees to help box the food, while others sent Pizza for the elves, while many businesses just sent money. One company made donations to throw a pie in the face of the Boss, with all the money going to the kids. Several Clubs quit exchanging gifts, and just bought gifts and toys for the kids. It should be known however, that Brookshires and Wal Mart made large contributions to this years Christmas Project. The next time you visit their stores, you need to thank the managers personally. Brookshires also gathered food along with the schools. The Corporate Offices of Brookshires made sure each family received a frozen hen. Chandler Elementary individually, gathered as many canned goods as all the other sources combined. My heart is joyful as I celebrate Christmas with my family, but the joy of seeing a childs face lighting up, just because I gave him a piece of fruit, makes me not so hungry. “Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight” Thank-you Kilgore for opening up your hearts and check books to this years Lions Club Christmas Project. Thank-you for supporting our fund raisers and allowing us to make a difference in this community through your generosity. Thank you News Herald for promoting our events and to all those businesses and individuals who gave anonomously just for the love of kids, may God bless you. Merry Christmas Chuck Maxwell Project Chairman Kilgore Lions Club
