Law enforcement ready for New Year weekend

By KATHRYN MARTINEZ news1@kilgorenewsherald.com

Kilgore police are keeping all shifts up to strength for this weekend’s onslaught of holiday traffic and anticipated bad weather.

“We’ve got a compliment of officers on each shift,” Randy Hancock, police captain said. “We will be out in full force assisting any agency that requires our help; and, doing everything possible to keep the residents of this city safe from the dangers that can come with a rainy holiday weekend.”

Gregg County Sheriff ’s deputies are expected to increase their force by as much as 20 percent according to Maxey Cerliano, Gregg County sheriff.

The county recently received a grant that pays for an increase in patrol during certain holidays including New Year’s Eve.

Glen Deason, Rusk County sheriff said sheriff ’s office reserve officers will be out this weekend assisting regular shift deputies in patrol and various duties.

“Sometimes New Year’s Eve is Quieter than an average weekend and sometimes it is more strenuous,” Deason said. “We are going to be available to assist in any way we can, to keep Rusk County safe.”
