KHS gets another win

HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS

The Kilgore High School tennis team exacted a bit of revenge on behalf of the school's football team over the weekend, beating Mount Pleasant - the only team to beat the KHS footballers so far this year - by winning 16 of 19 matchups.

Kilgore tennis coach Jason Maroney got a complete sweep of Mount Pleasant in boys singles. Trevar Compton beat Jessie Rawlings, 8-5; Jordan Carlson beat Dillan Hayes, 8-0; Eric Applegate beat Garrett Trickey, 8-3; Jody Madding defeated John Sanford, 8-4; and Josh Bailey also defeated his opponent 8-4.

In boys doubles play, Compton and Carlson beat Hayes and Trickey, 8-1, and Applegate and Andy Wright beat John Sanford and his partner, 8-0.

In girls singles, Kilgore (5-3 overall this fall season) suffered just one loss. Haley Smith beat Janira Buitron, 8-2; Kayla Rosen beat Kallie Kent, 8-0; Holly Ralson lost to Krystal Ruiz, 5-8; Emily Mitis beat Abby Buitron, 8-6; Callie Cunyus beat Shannon Payne, 8-1; and Emily Spence beat Janna Love, 8-2.

The girls No. 1 doubles team of Smith and Cunyus lost to Mount Pleasant's Janira Buitron and Ruiz, 6-8; Rosen and Mitis beat Kent and Abby Buitron, 83; and Ralson and Jade Climer beat Payne and Love, 8-0.

The only mixed doubles match of the day had to be cancelled due to rain - Kilgore's Madding and Spence were trailing 4-5 against Rawlings and Kent.

The Bulldogs are back in action in District 12-4A play today at home against Pine Tree.

Kilgore has a 1-2 record in district play headed into today's matches.
