Sand shutters swimming

NOT TODAY
By BRENDA ALLUMS news1@kilgorenewsherald.com

Alice Cooper almost sang, "Pool's out for summer."

Maybe not for summer, but at least for now, those looking to keep cool at the city pool are out of luck.

The pool is closed indefinitely, according to Mike Green, Kilgore's director of community services.

"The sand filter is not functioning and sand is being recirculated into the pool," he said.

Green said the city is having difficulty getting a new sand filter because of the age of the facility. "I think it was built in the late

1930s," Green said. "It's a large pool and they don't make filters to pull that much water any more."

The pool is 75-feet by 150-feet and holds 37,5000 gallons of water.

"Until we can find a solution to the problem, the pool will remain closed," Green said.
