State GOP honors former Gregg party chairman

Glenn Canfield SAN ANTONIO -The Republican Party of Texas posthumously honored ex-Gregg County Party Chairman Glenn Canfield at the state convention here.

His daughter, Sherry Dickson of Longview, was invited to sing the song "Friends" as a large, framed plaque was unveiled with Canfield's photograph. It also included many signed resolution and other momentos.

State GOP Chairman Tina Benkiser read a resolution by the State GOP honoring Canfield for his "steadfast devotion to the Republican Party, local, state and national."

The Texas House of Representatives honored Canfield with a concurrent resolution. Mounted next to his photograph was the Republican Senatorial Medal of Freedom, the highest honor the Republican

members of the U.S. Senate can bestow. He received the medal during the 11 years he served as county chairman. Canfield was also elected to served on the State Senatorial Republican Executive Committee.

Also on display were other resolutions Canfield received earlier from the Gregg County Republican Party and the Right to Life of East Texas.
